Persistence – How to Fail Your Way to Greatness

Persistence“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
-Thomas Alva Edison, 1877

If there is one cure for the sub-par, one magical formula of the achieved, it is Persistence. Persistence will get you everything you want and more, if you only apply it.

When asked how many failed attempts he made when trying to create the incandescent bulb, Edison said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Clearly, Edison understood the power of Persistence. In Napoleon Hill’s infamous book, Think and Grow Rich (which has sold over 70 million copies), the word Persistence appears no less than 99 times. Hill studied the greats: Charles Schwab, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Andrew Carnegie, etc. to find their common traits – what made them able to achieve great success. Persistence was one of the key traits shared by all of them.

Affiliate Summit West 2012 Recap

ASWComing home from Affiliate Summit West (Twitter hashtag #ASW), I’ve had some time to reflect on the events of the past few days. The biggest in Affiliate Summit history, 5,087 people attended; and you could feel it. Opening the same week as CES (the largest tradeshow in the US), Vegas was packed to the gills.

ASW was held at Caesar’s Palace, which was a great venue for the show. The last show I had attended (Pubcon, Nov 11) was at the Sands Expo. This was not good for networking or even having fun; everyone was spread out across different hotels. Caesar’s was perfect – decent show floors, plenty of dinning and most the attendees I knew were staying at the hotel.

The Meet Market

The Meet Market
Affiliate Summit always does a smaller show floor, 1 day before the show, called the Meet Market. Kudos to show organizers Missy Ward and Shawn Collins, because the Meet Market is a great idea. It gives the little guys a chance to exhibit for a fraction of the price of a proper tradeshow booth and increases the total number of companies for attendees to speak with. Win-Win.

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Thinking is Underrated.

We all think.

But do we consider the power of our thoughts? If you learn one law, one truth in your efforts to find happiness in this life, learn this:  what you think is what you feel.  Example: close your eyes and think about the scariest movie you’ve ever seen. Imagine the scene, imagine the terror. Really focus your thoughts on this, and you’ll start to feel something – fright. Now, let’s reset our thoughts. Imagine a person that makes you happy. Close your eyes, picture their face. Imagine them talking to you, smiling. Do this for 2-3 minutes. How do you feel? Probably quite a bit different than how you felt with the scary movie bouncing around in your head.
